Roadtripping with your four legged best friend can be a doggone good time as long as you can find dog friendly rest areas. Pups and their people traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 are furtunate to have just a stop right off Exit 159. This furrific pit stop is located on the southern end of Coachella Valley, and just 20 minutes outside of Indio.
This rest area is situated in lovely desert terrain. With
just a few trees and flowering bushes, it doesn’t really have much natural
shade, so it’s a good thing there are shelters that provide relief from the
sun. Wildflowers make the stop extra cheery, and weary travelers can find
restrooms and water fountains. There are also infurmational signs about the local
flora and fauna that you can read. Your doggo will learn something new after
they take care of business. Maps are also displayed for those needing a little
direction. There are a few picnic tables and shelters, as well as
benches, and plenty of trash cans.Â
Your pup will be happy to know that there is a designated
canine area, so they can move around a bit before getting back in the car. But
there are a couple things to keep in mind. When the temperature soars, the dirt
ground can be too hot for doggy paws. The area is also home to rattlesnakes, and though these slithering creatures aren’t very social, they may show up from
time to time. Just keep your eyes open when your pup is out and about. Don’t
forget to pick up whatever your pooch may put down, so be sure to have come clean-up bags on hand.
No bones about it, your traveling pooch will appreciate a
stop at this pawsome rest area!
