Island Park Off-Leash Dog Zone offers a large open playground which is fenced on one side and bordered by water on the other three sections. In addition, this park permits entrance to its dog playground section free of charge to the public. For those seeking some additional outdoor recreational activities during their visit to the park, Island Park itself offers many different amenities including boat ramps with direct river access, hiking trails, and a skate park.
Also housed on the property are picnic areas with comfortable seating and shade suitable for an enjoyable family meal by the water. Bathroom facilities are available on the property for public use, and here, water can be obtained to help quench Fido's thirst after a romp in the river or a vigorous run. Poop bags are not provided; however, it is the responsibility of each owner to clean up after their pets.
Though this park is extremely dog-friendly and permits off-leash access, dogs are not permitted on the grounds between the hours of 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM daily. No other rules are posted regarding the dogs who make use of the park. To ensure your dog is protected against the threat of disease, it is a wise idea for your dog to be properly inoculated for rabies, parvovirus, and all other illnesses as deemed appropriate by your veterinarian.
Because most states do require a city dog license, it would also be advisable to obtain one for your dog as well. For an enjoyable afternoon on the banks of a gorgeous river, pack a picnic lunch, and head out to Island Park Off-Leash Dog Zone!
