The John Stiff Memorial Dog Park is a section of the John Stiff Memorial Park which has been conditioned for use as an off-leash area for exercising dogs. It is in the city of Amarillo in Texas. There is an amply sized parking lot just a short walk from the dog park entrance.Â
Dogs are required to be kept on their leashes while being walked from the lot to the off-leash area and in all other parts of the main park. This dog park provides excellent space for dogs of all sizes to run around. There is no special small breed section. It is a large grassy field enclosed with waist-high, chain-link fencing.Â
There is also a secure staging area which is double gated. The off-leash area is very open to the elements and there is not much shade provided by the few small trees within its borders. The ground of the off-leash area can become inundated and muddy after rain. Seating for pet owners is on park benches distributed around the dog park border.
Water fountains are installed at the dog park. The ground around the fountains is unpaved, and owners using the facility should wear adequate footwear if planning on giving their dog water from them. There are poop bag dispensers and dumpsters on-site and owners should ensure they pick up all poop produced by their dog.
There is a limit in place as to how many dogs can be exercised by each handler, which is three per person. Handlers must be at least sixteen years old. All owners are held responsible for their dogs, and aggressive behavior is not tolerated.Â
Any dog which has a known history of aggression is required to wear a muzzle while in the off-leash area. All dogs must have completed a full cycle of vaccinations and hold the necessary license from the Amarillo authorities.
