Visitors to this lakeside facility love its rural charm and natural landscape. On-site are two large campgrounds offering visitors the choice of 114 sites suited to tenting or RV living or 4 cabins of various sizes. There are also on site waste disposal stations for those camping in RV's. Lake Poinsett Recreation Area offers many family-friendly pursuits for all to enjoy. On-site activities include basketball, camping, disc golf, fishing, boating, and much more. There are also many hiking trails where families can leisurely stroll to reconnect with nature.
For those who love to swim, Lake Poinsett is an ideal haven for swimming. Also available for public use are an on site boat ramp, a fish cleaning station, a fishing pole rental counter, and a visitor's center. Bathrooms are provided for public use and include toilets and potable water suitable to keep Fido and his family well-hydrated. Picnic areas are plentiful throughout the park and include shelters to provide protection from the sun.
The fee for park entrance is $6 per vehicle; however, passes can be purchased which permit year-round access. Campsites and cabins are available by reservation only and are also fee-based. While dogs are welcome at Lake Poinsett Recreation Area, they must remain on a lead of no greater than 10 feet at all times. Dogs are not permitted in designated swimming areas.
There are no specific rules governing the use of the park; however, it is recommended that all dogs be current on vaccinations. It is also wise for dogs to bear the appropriate state licensing tag. It is unknown if poop bags are provided on-site. However, it is required by park officials that all owners promptly pick up and properly dispose of any canine waste materials.
