Leo Carillo State Park & Beach

Known for its pristine beaches and unique rock formations, Leo Carillo State Park & Beach offers a beautiful oceanside experience with every sort of water sport available. Known for its tide pools, coastal reefs, and caves, this is a great park to explore with your canine any day of the week. The park was named after Leo Carrillo, a nationally known actor and conservationist who served on the California Beach and Parks commission for 14 years. 

For overnighters, there are 47 campsites to choose from. Seventeen of these contain full electrical hookups for campers and RVs, while the rest are strictly for primitive camping. All of these sites come with a fire pit and picnic table, and are immediately adjacent to coin-operated showers and washrooms. If you are looking to have your canine accompany you on your overnight stay, they are welcome to join you provided they stay on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Dogs are not permitted to enter any of the indoor structures. 

Backcountry trails and the Leo Carillo Beach Trail are on site, but pups are prohibited from these trails. The beaches, however, are just waiting for your pup to explore. Anywhere in the park, dogs should remain leashed, and the beach is no exception. Your pup can splash in the water or romp in the sand with you on Staircase Beach and North Beach. Keep your dog away from South Beach, which is south of Lifeguard Tower 3, as this beach is off limits to dogs.

Access fees range for the Leo Carillo State Park from $3 for an hour, to $12 for the day per vehicle. Bring all the essentials for a pawtastic day out with your dog, including water to share and clean-up bags. Be sure to pickup whatever your dog lays down.
