Just minutes from Santa Clara County's urban centers lies the Lexington Reservoir County Park, where you and your pup can spend a beautiful day in nature. This 950-acre site contains a 338-acre manmade reservoir and miles of trails, with recreational activities centering around these features. So if your pup enjoys climbing over things and going on boat rides, they're in for a treat!
Don't miss the chance to explore the beautiful blue waters of the reservoir with your pup. While swimming is not allowed, non-power boats such as kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are welcome for a fee and after a quick inspection by staff. You'll find the boat launch less than half a mile from the dam, but you'll have to hand launch your vessel if the water level is low. Portable toilets and picnic tables are also available at the boat launch area, making it easy for you and Fido to refuel with a packed lunch after cruising around the water.
If your pooch prefers exploring by land, they'll have a barking good time following the trails that weave through the park. The Jones Trail, which can be accessed from the boat launch area, will take you and your pup into St. Joseph's Hill Preserve. For a more challenging hike, hit the Priest Rock and Limekiln Trails. Both trails will have you and Fido climbing a steep, wooded hillside, but the views at the top are worth the leg workout—don't forget to bring your camera!
The park closes at sunset, so be sure to get your boat off the water or be back at the trailhead before then. Always keep your furry buddy on a 6-foot leash and clean up after them. It is unknown if doggie waste bags are provided, so do bring your own, as well as water.
