Madison Square Dog Park
There is a water hose in the corner of the park with some bowls for your pup to stay hydrated. However, bring your own water if you visit during the winter months. While this park won't give you the feeling that you've escaped the city, you can admire the architecture of the Flat Iron District. Don't get too distracted by this background because you must clean up after your pup. If you forget to bring a bag, there are some in the park and garbage pails are located nearby.
The park has double gated entrances for separate small and large dog areas, however, the small dog area is a corner of the park and some owners let their little dogs in the larger park have more running space. If you want a treat after your day in the park, visit the Shake Shack located in the park near Madison and 23rd. The menu has something special for your pup, too.
The dog park is located inside Madison Square Park on the Fifth Avenue entrance between E. 23rd Street and E. 26th Street. While you might want to take Fido for a walk through the rest of the park, he must be on-leash when outside of the fenced in doggie designated area. Also, he is not allowed on the grass lawns throughout the rest of the park and his leash must be no longer than six feet in length.
Your dog must also wear his collar with tags that indicate he is up-to-date on his rabies vaccination. Fido must also meet all the New York City Health Codes and if you're unsure of those, call 311 or contact the New York City Department of Health. To get to the park, take the N, R or 6 subway to 23rd street or the bus routes 1, 2, 3, 5, or 23.
