The McAllen Dog Park is beloved by the residents of the local community. The ground is grass though the consistency can be a little shotty and it seems to be more of a mix of dirt and grass, moving from the former to the latter as the use of the area decreases. The entrance to this park is noted by a large metal sign in the shape of a dog bone with the words "McAllen Dog Park" cut out from the center of it.
This dog park is fenced, and there are separate sections for large and small breeds. There is water at the entrance to this park so be sure to bring your bowl to keep your canine hydrated. Poop bags and garbage cans are also available at the access to either section and along the fence line. Seating can be found scattered through the park, typically along the fence.
There are some trees at this park, mostly outside the fenced section, that provide some shade during the early and late hours of the day. When the sun is overhead, there is no form of shade for you or your canine, and you are subject to the suns rays. The field itself is relatively large. You could play some long-range games of fetch provided you limited your throws a decent bit.
Your canine could undoubtedly get a good run in and wear themselves out with the other dogs at this dog park. The maintenance here is a bit lacking, and the grounds do not stay very clean, but the grass stays mowed to a proper height, and the garbage is regularly removed.
The McAllen Dog Park is lit and stays open well after sunset during the summer. Overall, the McAllen Dog Park is a great dog park with plenty of space for your canine to enjoy. Locals in the area enjoy the park, and it makes for an excellent place to take your canine on a beautiful day.
