Mitchell Edelson Dog Park (at Soule Park)

The Mitchell Edison Dog Park is a one-acre dog park in Soule Park, Ojai, California. The dog park is only accessible for use during the public parks set opening hours, and these vary with the seasons. Owners are advised to check the park noticeboard or the parks department website on a regular basis in case any variations to the opening hours have been implemented. 

For dog owners arriving by vehicle, there is a pay and display parking lot. The charge for parking is $4 at weekends and $2 during the week. Only cash is accepted for paying parking charges. To reach the designated off-leash area, owners need to walk their pups through the public park. The park can be very busy at times, more so at weekends, with families enjoying picnics and other recreational activities. 

It is imperative all dogs are kept leashed until they are inside the specified zone so as not to upset or interrupt the enjoyment of other park users. At this dog park in Ojai, the owners are blessed with a real visual treat. While their pooch is sniffing around, they get to admire the stunning mountain scenery. The dogs do not appreciate it much but what they do love is having so much space to run around in. 

This is a safe space too as it has been fenced with some solid split timber fencing covered with wire mesh. The only downside is the fencing is quite low, and some larger dogs would be able to jump over it quite easily if they were feeling inclined. That does not apply to the breeds with shorter legs or weighing less than twenty pounds. They have a separate section and the same as the big dog area, it's grassed and has some beautiful old oak trees.

The Mitchell Edison Dog Park is monitored by the Venture County Animal Services, who make regular patrols of the area. There are lots of poop mitts and bags in both off-leash areas, and owners are expected to use them. Being caught not cleaning up after their puppy has pooped could land a pet owner a citation. It is easy, and a lot cheaper, to do the right thing.
