Monterey Dog Park - Galt Bark Park

It is hard to believe, but the dog park is a recent phenomenon. The first dog park was established in Berkeley, California, in the late 60's. Since that time, the concept really took off. There are dog parks in small towns, large cities, and suburbs. The dog parks vary in size and features, but in general, they have fences, water fountains for people and puppies, and a section for small dogs. 

Opinions vary about the size and necessity of a small dog section in a dog park. Anyone with a large, or particularly energetic dog, may think that a section for small dogs is wasted space. But, of course, people with smaller dogs have a different opinion, as do the owners of older and handicapped dogs who are often able to use the small dog section of a dog park.

So if your dog is, say a Dachshund, your pooch will have a smaller, shorter tunnel to crawl through than the large dog section. 

And by the same token, the large dog section has higher hurdles and steeper ramps.
