Officer Lucy Dog Park is a small, public dog park located in the Lafayette Park in Bellaire, Texas. It was named in honor of Officer Lucy, a former K-9 veteran of the Bellaire Police Department. Despite its size, this off-leash neighborhood dog park is quite popular within the community, especially since it is by an open green space, playgrounds, and a youth soccer field.
The Officer Lucy Dog Park is 0.63 acres in size and has two separate areas for small dog breeds and bigger hounds. The small dog run is 0.10 acres in size while the big dog enclosure is 0.53 acres. Though not ideal, both areas provide a secure place where dogs can get some leash-free exercise in a securely fenced environment with a double-gated entry system.
The dog park has a simple layout and its surface mainly consists of grass, though there are some dirt patches as well. Since there are wading pools that canines can use to cool off and doggie water fountains that keep them hydrated, playtime can get muddy quite fast so make sure to bring a towel for your pooch’s paws. There are some bushes and trees that provide an ample amount of shade, which is great for both the canines and the dog-owners who need to keep their pups in sight while they relax on the benches in the dog park.
In addition to the above, there are dog waste bag dispensers that are always filled and plenty of trash cans, making it easier to keep the park clean by encouraging owners to tidy up after their four-legged friends. The regular patrons are very welcoming and pride themselves on having well-behaved dogs. Though it can get crowded on the weekends, overall it is a great place to socialize young dogs and organize play-dates in a safe, leash-free environment.
