Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is located about 50 miles north of the City of Eureka, California. The land is filled with magnificent Coast Redwood and Roosevelt Elk trees. There are also beautiful canyons and 75 miles of enchanting hiking trails. The hiking trail located at Cal Barrel Road is the only trail that welcomes dogs. 

The dog-friendly hiking trail is one of the most beautiful out of all the trails. Some of the trees date back 2,000 years and some of them are hollow due to being struck by lightning. Exploring this trail is a must-do with your dog. The trail is an uphill hike so make sure you bring hiking boots for you and your dog as well as water and snacks. 

You also need to bring along pet waste bags to clean up after your dog during your visit to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The rabies vaccine is also required for dogs that visit this park. There is wildlife throughout the park that you might see on hiking trails with your dog. Vaccinating your dog will protect them from various diseases related to wild animals. 

Displaying your dog's vaccination and license tag on their collar is recommended at the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. You should also include an identification tag with current contact information in case your dog gets lost. You need to keep your dog next to you at all times and on a leash that measures six feet or less for safety reasons. 

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is great to visit with your dog but also an excellent choice to spend time with your family. The park offers camping, biking trails, hiking trails, scenic drives, access to wildlife, and California Redwoods. Overall, this park exposes you to some of the oldest trees in the United States. It’s a great place to explore with your dog and take pictures next to the incredibly tall and beautiful trees.
