Saddleback Butte State Park

Saddleback Butte State Park in Lancaster, California, is a beautiful recreational area featuring camping and hiking. Among the notable scenery at Saddleback Butte State Park is the granite mountaintop surface of Mount St. Helens which towers above the breathtaking Antelope Valley. The campground rises to an elevation of 3,651 feet at its highest point, meaning the land offers plentiful challenging hiking opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy. 

Situated within the Mojave Desert in the western portion of the area, this park boasts a hot, arid climate, seasonal wildflowers, and wooded areas comprised of Joshua Trees. There are also many steep hiking trails which travel over rough and varied terrain. It is important to note that though dogs are permitted to join their families on the premises, they are not allowed on any of the trails.

Your dog can join you at the campgrounds, at the picnic area, and on the road between them. This paved road is 2/3 miles, and a puptastic opportunity to safely walk your dog while spending time here. Keep your pup on a leash no greater than 6 feet in length, in a vehicle or in a tent. Since there are no on-site amenities provided for canine use, be sure to have bottled water, a dog dish, and clean-up bags on hand. All dogs in the park should be current on vaccinations, and have a current ID tag.

To spend an afternoon here, entry to the park costs $6 per vehicle. For a longer adventure, campsites are available for $20 per night, which includes park entry for one vehicle. Bathrooms for humans are on site. 

There are many attractions to enjoy at Saddleback Butte State Park, but one of the most notable activities is the viewing of wildlife in its natural habitat. The area is home to a number of desert species including some deadly rattlesnakes, so be aware of what may be underfoot.
