The Sam Combs Dog Park is located in the Sam Combs Park in West Sacramento, California. Parking is available on the streets of the surrounding neighborhood and in the lot of the main park. This dog park is a stretch of parkland which has been designated by the West Sacramento authorities as an off-leash area for exercising dogs. It is not permitted for dogs to be off-leash in any other part of the park other than the specified zone.Â
The dog park has been fully enclosed with chain-link fencing and has a separate section cordoned off for small dogs. Both sections have large, double gated staging areas for the safe unleashing and leashing of dogs. While this is a very spacious dog park, it is not overly busy and so is a great place for dogs which need a lot of space to run around.
The off-leash area is mostly surfaced with dirt though there are some patches of rough grass in a few places. It is bordered by mature trees which offer great shade on sunny days. There are also several large trees inside the perimeter fence. Pet owners should note that the off-leash area can be very dry and dusty during hot weather and muddy after heavy rainfall. Dog-friendly water fountains are installed in both sections.Â
There are also several poop bag dispensers, but bag supplies can often be depleted. It is recommended that owners always carry extra bags on their person as they are obliged to pick up all poop produced by their pet and deposit used bags in the containers provided.
Pet owners should be aware that to use the facility their dogs must be licensed with the local authorities and be wearing the appropriate tag on their collar. Dogs must also have all their vaccinations up to date. No owner is permitted to exercise more than two dogs at any one time. Children under the age of fourteen must be accompanied by an adult.
