The San Leandro Dog Park is a public dog park located at the Marina Park in San Leandro, California. In addition to the San Leandro Dog Park, the 30-acre regional park features everything from playgrounds for kids, fishing areas by the water, and grassy areas for picnics, barbeques, and soccer games.Â
The beautiful shoreline park is the ideal location for leashed dog walks as there are a variety of walking and jogging trails that run throughout the park, as well as public restrooms that are located across from the parking lot. The San Leandro Dog Park was opened in September 2011 and can be found on the south side of the Marina Park, past the Shoreline Trail entrance, by the golf course.Â
It is nearly one-and-a-half acres in size and provides plenty of space for dogs to roam freely without a leash. The dog park’s open space layout is made up of two separate, securely fenced and double-gated areas that overlook the view of the bay. There are a small dog enclosure and a large dog run which ensures dogs run and play without getting accidentally trampled.Â
Both dog spaces have some grassy areas, but unfortunately, most of the dog park’s surface consists of gravel and dirt so playtime can get dusty. Foxtails are also common, so please keep that in mind if you have a long-haired dog. There are not many trees growing in the off-leash areas.Â
However, the San Leandro Dog Park features shade structures that help keep the park’s canine patrons and their humans cool and comfortable. Benches and picnic tables are available for dog owners to relax on while they keep their dogs in sight and make sure they are well-behaved during their visit.Â
The dog park is equipped with water fountains, which is convenient as owners won’t have to worry about their furball staying hydrated during playtime. Trash cans and free waste bag dispensers are available too, so please make sure to use them to clean up after your dog if you visit. Lastly, watch out for golf balls as there have been cases of golf balls landing in the off-leash areas from the nearby course.Â
