In a world that revolves around humans, it often seems that dogs have to fit in where they can. At South Buena Vista Park, in Vista, California, the tables have turned. The city has made about one-third of the park an off-leash dog park, and have actually fenced in the playground. Whether the playground has been fenced to protect the kids from the dogs, or the dogs from the kids, depends on who you're asking.Â
But at this South Buena Vista, it's the people part of the park that is fenced in. South Buena Vista Park is about 15 acres, most of which is considered natural, meaning there's not a lot changes that have been made to the area of the park. There are a couple of basketball courts and a parking lot, in addition to the fenced playground mentioned above where the dogs are not allowed to go.Â
Beyond that, the park is dedicated to dogs and their people. In the park, you and your puppy will find a lot of trees and bushes. There's a nice oak grove just beyond the playground. There are benches throughout the park, but there aren't any poop bags, so be sure to bring your own. There's also not a lot of water fountains for people, and there are currently no water fountains for dogs, so you should be prepared.Â
The South Buena Vista Park Off-Leash Area has a long, paved trail circling the park, with a number of dirt paths branching off it. In the center of the park, there is a concrete picnic area with a covered pavilion, picnic tables, and barbeques. There's also bathroom facilities in the area.Â
The area is nicely shaded, and on relatively high ground, so there's often a nice breeze. South Buena Vista Park Off Leash Area is set well back from main roads, but the park is not fenced, so before you go, you should make sure your dog is well-trained in responding to voice commands.
