Description

The Trail of Tears State Park provides a well-edged contrast of its sad history and the serene setting visitors can enjoy today. The legend says that in the winter of 1838, thousands of Cherokee Indians tried to cross the Mississippi River in harsh conditions. At that time, the U.S Government attempted to relocate these people, causing the majority of them to lose their lives.

Even though the Trail of Tears State Park bears a sad memory, it has some amazing natural features that make it a peaceful and give it a unique beauty. On the bright side, the park is filled with picnic sites, hiking, and horseriding trails, as well as some great fishing opportunities.

In addition, the majestic vistas of the Mississippi River and its surroundings will leave you staring in awe. Thanks to its excellent location on the river, the Trail of Tears State Park is the ideal place to watch migratory birds in Missouri. Be sure to bring binoculars and a camera if you are interested in capturing the beauty of these birds.

Camping sites are also available at Trail of Tears State Park, but it's best to reserve your spot before you come to the park. Furthermore, bringing your dog with you is an excellent opportunity for Fido to have some outdoor fun time. Keeping your pet on a leash at the Trail of Tears State Park is demanded, as wildlife can be a real distraction for a dog.

This way you can ensure both your pet's safety and the safety of other animals in the Trail of Tears State Park. Fido is allowed on hiking trails, yet you can't take your dog swimming or inside any historical buildings on-site. As a final request, always make sure you're cleaning after your dog properly.

Since waste bags are not available on site, always carry one with you in our pocket when you're out with your furry companion. Discover the beauty of the Trail of Tears State Park and see for yourself how a place with a sad history can be such a superb retreat for both people and pets!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
