Description

Containing beautiful natural marvels such as rivers, waterfalls, and dense forests, the Van Damme State Park has genuinely earned its national reputation as a tourist hotspot. Known for its enormous redwood trees, the Van Damme State Park should not be missed when visiting the California coastline. If you are into hiking, the Van Damme State Park is going to be right up your alley with over 15 miles of trails to choose from.

These trails travel over a variety of terrains, but the majority are on crushed gravel and can be attempted within an hour or two. Make sure to check out the Fern Canyon Scenic Trail, as it leads to the gorgeous Van Damme Beach and provides some much-needed respite for weary explorers. Canines are allowed in these areas, provided they are on an 8-foot leash or shorter.

As these paths tend to be a little wilder, park officials remind guests to bring any necessary cleanup materials for visiting pets. Cycling is another great way to spend your time in the Van Damme State Park, with specially designed paved roads traveling throughout the sprawling landscape. Cyclists should take note that bicycles are to be kept on the cycling trails specifically, including any of the forested walking trails.

Dogs are forbidden from entering these trails, as the pace can be slightly frenetic. If you are looking to camp, Van Damme has over 70 drive-in campsites, 63 of which come standard with both water and electric, as well as a fire pit and covered pavilion. The campsite is open year round, and guests are encouraged to make their reservations as early as possible.

Canine companions can hang out in the campgrounds provided they stay on their leashes throughout their stay. Any public restroom and shower facilities are strictly off limits to dogs. Fishing is popular on the coastline, with many out of state visitors coming to try their luck. Guests should be aware that any angler 16 years or older must have a valid fishing license to engage in the sport.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
