Description
Wailoa River State Recreation Area is located in Hilo, Hawaii. This lovely state park is home to the "rainbow falls" though visitors to the area do note that the water only reflects a rainbow during the earliest portions of the day. Wailoa River State Recreation Area is extremely picturesque.

There is a river that traverses the grounds and several bridges which provide a scenic backdrop for photos. Housed in the center of the park is a controversial statue of King Kahehameha I, the purported founder of Hawaii. There are mixed reviews amongst the locals as to the quality and proper representation of their king in this monument.

Also found on the premises is the Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center. Access to this area is free of charge, but it is important to note that this building observes very limited hours. Dogs are permitted to join their families at Wailoa River State Recreation Area; however, they must remain leashed.

Both bathrooms and drinking water are available on the premises. Unfortunately, there isn't a designated dog play area at this park. Poop bags are not supplied. Owners should bring some from home with them to assist with cleaning up after their pets as is mandated by Hawaii state law.

Wailoa River State Recreation Area is a public facility, and people and their pooches are permitted entrance to the grounds free of charge. Among the most popular recreational activities are fishing, hiking, boating, and picnicking. The property houses a number of lovely walking paths as well as public bathrooms.

Bench and picnic-style seating is also provided. Wailoa River State Recreation Area strictly prohibits alcohol and cigarettes on their grounds. All canine visitors must be up to date on vaccinations and must also bear a current city dog license tag on their collars. Looking for a beautiful Hawaiian park to explore? Why no stop by Wailoa River State Recreation Area?
