Description
Looking to escape the busyness of city life for a few days? Bring Fido and the family to visit Watkins Woolen Mill State Park! Located in Lawson, Missouri, this lovely recreational area and campground sits beside the Watkins Woolen Mill Historic Site, the home of a preserved 19th-century wool mill. The property still houses an old church and school building dating back to the time when the mill formed a part of a booming industry for the region. The mill has been declared a National Historic Landmark and draws a lot of interested visitors each year. Tours of the grounds are conducted daily and cost $4.

The park is home to a 100-acre lake which teems with bass, sunfish, crappie, and catfish, making it a haven for avid fishermen. The shores make an ideal beach setting, and many families love to lounge in the sand or splash in the lake on a hot summer's day. Fido is welcome to join his family at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park; however, in accordance with Missouri state law, he is to remain on a leash of no greater than six feet in length at all times. At this time, there is not an area reserved for dog play at this park nor are any amenities provided for dog use. Owners should bring both drinking water and clean up bags with them from home. All canine waste removal is the responsibility of each owner. Bathrooms are available on the premises for public use.

Watkins Woolen Mill State Park charges no fees for admission to this historic property. Visitors love that this tranquil, rural park is quite near to metropolitan Kansas City, making it possible to visit the big city in the daytime and retire to the country at night. Among the most popular activities at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park are fishing, camping, picnicking, boating, biking, and horseback riding. Also housed on the grounds are a museum and a souvenir shop. Campsites are available, but it is unknown if reservations are required or if there are any associated fees for a rental. Watkins Woolen Mill State Park is also a haven for many species of wildlife including white-tailed deer and wild turkeys.

Visitors to this recreational area must ensure that they comply with all Missouri state laws. This includes ensuring all dogs are current on vaccinations and have obtained a city dog license. Bring your pup for an adventure today!
