In the Hermitage area of Nashville, Tennessee, you and your canine kid can take a short and easy dog furiendly hike on the pawsitively gorgeous Alta Lake Greenway. The trail is only 0.7 miles one way, and is very pawpular with the locals for many uses such as hiking, jogging, bike riding, and dog walking. If you walk the whole trail and back to the beginning, the total length is 1.4 miles, and your elevation gain is about 156 feet.
This peaceful hike will take you and your poochie through a wooded area starting at the north end of J. Percy Priest Reservoir on Dodson Chapel Road, and meanders alongside Bell Road until it reaches Mills Road. Whether you are a fitness fan, a nature lover, or just want to take your furry furever furiend for a walk, this is the furfect choice if you don’t have much time and you are close to the area.Â
The first half of the natural dirt trail is in a wonderfully wooded and quiet section where you are likely to see some wild critters such as squirrels, rabbits, deer, chipmunks, and many species of birds. You and your doggo will also cross over a small creek about 0.2 miles into the hike.Â
The second half of the Alta Lake Greenway takes you behind the Alta Lake Apartments, but you will also cross another creek on your way. Make sure you keep your poochie on a leash and bring along some H20 for you both to drink since there are no restrooms or water fountains along the trail. You will also need to bring plastic baggies to pick up after whatever your fur buddy happens to leave behind.Â
You’re sure to love this fun walk and will want to come back again soon.Â
