The Avalon Park Trails are a prime place to get some fresh air and exercise with your furry pal in the neighborhood of Avalon Park, Chicago. These trails wind through the lovely 28 acre Avalon Park. They combine to form a couple loops, equalling approximately 1.5 miles. With these great trails nearby, living in an urban area doesn’t mean you need to be far from nature!
The entrance to the park can be found on East 83rd Street, where you will find the Avalon Park Fieldhouse. Behind the fieldhouse is plenty of free parking. Within the fieldhouse there are many different facilities and multi-purpose rooms. Only service dogs are allowed in the fieldhouse, but from the parking lot, your outdoor, dog-friendly adventure begins!
The pathways are paved, and easy on the paws. This makes them pawfectly attainable for pups and people of all fitness levels. They are lined with shade trees for the most part, and therefore comfortable on a hot summer day. Some of the sights you’ll enjoy on your travels include picnic groves, a swimming pool, a playground, and a variety of athletic fields. You can even stop and watch a baseball game along the way! There are benches here too, where you can kick back and spend some time communing with nature.
Doggos are more than welcome to join their humans on these trails, as long as a couple ground rules are followed. These include keeping your pup leashed and picked up after at all times. Don’t forget the waste bags, and some treats for your good boy or girl!
