Description

If you and your dog love climbing up mountains together, Bald Mountain Trail is perfect for you! This scenic five-mile trail takes you up pawesome Bald Mountain. Along the way, you’ll pass numerous beautiful landscapes.

Bald Mountain Trail begins at River Run Plaza. Here, you’ll find parking and restrooms. There’s no water available here, so be sure to bring a bottle or two with you. When you head out onto Bald Mountain Trail, the first thing you’ll see is the Big Wood River. You’ll parallel the river for a little bit, and then, you’ll reach a series of switchbacks that take you through a shady, wooded area. This part of the trail is very steep, so be sure to take your time as you’re hiking here.

After going through the wooded area, you’ll emerge onto a grassy hillside where you’ll get amazing views of Sun Valley. Here, you'll find a wooden observation deck where you can take a break and enjoy the sprawling view of the mountains and valley.

On the next part of the trail, you’ll continue walking up the hillside, and you’ll pass numerous dry ski runs. Then, you’ll walk past aspen groves and groves filled with evergreen trees. After that, you’ll pass a meadow that’s full of beautiful wildflowers, including colorful lupines, fireweed, Arrowleaf Balsamroot, and Western Columbines.

For the rest of the hike, you’ll continue climbing up a dirt-packed path. The path ends at the summit of Bald Mountain, where you’ll get stunning views in every direction. Spend as much time as you’d like up here before you head back down to the start of the trail.

Bald Mountain Trail is a steep, scenic trail that’s perfect for adventurous pups. Bring doggy bags so you can clean up after your pup while you’re hiking, and have a great time trekking on this fun-filled trail!
