The trail runs just over eight miles through both town and countryside settings, and it is entirely composed of asphalt. While there are many reasons you’ll want to visit Blackwater Heritage State Trail, the most important one is that the trail welcomes furry paws!

The trail offers a pleasant experience for all dog owners, and whether you want to stop by for a quick walk or explore all eight miles of the trail, you won’t be disappointed. Also, the trail has a rich backstory that will excite and intrigue any visitors with an interest in history — it spans the old route of the Florida and Alabama Railroad!

There are a number of different trailheads you can use to begin your hike; the southernmost trailhead in Milton is a nice place to start if you’re going to explore the trail in its entirety. Heading north, one of the first waypoints you will encounter is a nice visitor’s center that offers information about the area.
