Ready to take a hike with your pawtastic pup in a most scenic area of Florida? Then head to the town of Marianna where you will find the Chipola River Greenway, 5 parcels of land that includes the Hinson Conservation and Recreation Area.Â
The trail system found here offers a number of different interconnecting trails which wind through this 291-acre property for 4 miles! You can pick the distance you would like or take all the loop trails. The trailheads are located in the Recreation Area where you have a choice of 4 different loops, all rated as easy and measuring in at just over or under 1 mile each. They offer dirt footing and are well maintained.
The North and East Loops can offer a fitness challenge as they meander through a changing environment of forests and floodplains. You will see rock outcroppings, caves to explore, sink holes to watch out for and wetlands to see rare animal habitats. These features offer changing grades, so you can create a nice workout for your hike.
The North and East Loops are the more scenic routes. The trails will lead you and Fido through beautiful woods where wildlife abound. There are rare plants here, so please stay on the dedicated paths. These trials are on their way to becoming part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail System.Â
The recreation area itself offers visitors picnic areas, lots of benches to relax and a boat launch for non-motorized boats to take a trip down the Chipola River. Restrooms and drinking fountains can be found throughout the area, just steps from the trailhead. Be sure to bring mutt mitts to keep this park pup-friendly and keep them on leash throughout your visit here.
