Description

If you and your four-footed fur buddy are looking for a nice easy hike not too far off the beaten path, check out Clover Creek Preserve Trail is a pawfect hiking loop inside the lovely Clover Creek Preserve. At about 1.4 miles, this trail gives you the option of either a paved or dirt path, which are right next to each other. This loop trail starts at Shasta View Drive and Venus Way just south of Hartnell, though other access points can be found from Goodwater Avenue, Thomasson Trail Road, and Woodbury Drive.

The Clover Creek Preserve Trail stays pretty flat throughout the preserve as it weaves in and out of valley and blue oaks, natural grass, and eucalyptus trees. There are plenty of interpretive signs with information about the park, the lake, and the vernal pools along the path. You'll also find several benches where you and Fido can take a break and enjoy the fresh air and peacefulness.

There are two water fountains along the path, so you don’t have to worry about bringing more than one water bottle to share with your fur baby. Do bring enough clean-up bags for the day. The trail is not long, so you and your poochie may even want to go around the loop more than once. Approximately half of your hike will be around the pawfectly gorgeous Clover Lake where you can see plenty of waterfowl such as ducks, geese, and terns.

As you head into the first loop, you will pass over Clover Creek, which is almost always full of vibrant blooms of native wildflowers like buttercups, Indian paintbrush, lilies, and many more. The lake and creek critters are also running about, tempting your pooch, so keep that leash on at all times. In the wooded areas, you are going to cross paths with other wildlife like turkeys, rabbits, deer, and squirrels.

The Clover Creek Preserve Trail is definitely one of the best in the Sacramento Valley, and you will be glad that you and your fur buddy came.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
