East Lakeshore Trail

Spend a day hiking with your furry friend on the East Lakeshore Trail. This network of paths follows the eastern side of Tellico Reservoir. The nine connecting legs stretch for almost 30 miles. Collectively, they offer scenic views, opportunities to watch wildlife, and easy to moderate terrain. Walk the length of the natural-surface road or hop on at any of the ten trailheads. The area is a favorite haunt for hikers, joggers, and nature enthusiasts. There are restrooms available on the property.

From the Canal Branch Trailhead near Highway 321, you'll head south along the reservoir. The route starts with lake views and an easy trail. Hike past some large trees and up to the Mizell Bluff Overlook for scenic vistas. As you continue along the other branches of this recreational trail, you'll find an interpretive segment with learning sites, bridges, and a variety of landscapes. A high point of the trek is an 85-foot bridge made of steel and concrete that stretches over Coyote Cove. The pathway also heads through the Lotterdale Campground and on a boardwalk for about 140 feet. There are benches at points along the way where you can take a breather. 

You can bring your pooch with you when you hike here, but they need to stay on a leash. Follow "leave no trace" practices by collecting and disposing of any waste. If you're planning a longer hike, carry water for you and your furry pal.

The East Lakeshore Trail is a puptacular place to go hiking with Fido. Wander through the trees and by the shoreline of the reservoir. Pause along the way to enjoy stunning lake views. This area is part of the Tellico Reservoir Watershed, and it features habitats that support several species of waterfowl and migratory birds. Also, you might spy deer, wild turkey, and other woodland creatures here.
