Description

The Guadalupe River Trail is a paved, multi-use pathway that follows the water's course. This point-to-point avenue heads through the city of San Jose and offers access to downtown destinations that are near the route. Jog or walk from Alviso to San Francisco Bay with your special pal. There are separate upper and lower parts of the path.

On the north end, you can park at the Alviso Education Center and hike south toward downtown San Jose. The path heads under major roadways, allowing you to travel without delay. Expect to share this trail with bikers and pedestrians seeking a safe avenue to sites like the Heritage Rose Garden, San Jose State University, museums, and sporting venues. Take your time to do some people-watching while you're here.

Just south of the airport, you'll enter the Guadalupe River Park, where you can look for birds and enjoy the vegetation by the river. The greenway stretches for about three miles and provides a serene setting for a walk with your canine companion. Spend your time wandering around the park together. There are public restrooms and parking spaces available at this site.

The San Jose Park division allows you to bring dogs with a leash up to six feet long on this public pathway. Secure them on a lead and have them under your control at all times. Remember to carry bags with you to remove any droppings. You'll also want to have refreshments for you and your pooch.

For the casual walker or avid jogger, the Guadalupe River Trail offers a gently sloping pathway that passes through a variety of settings. You can use this paved surface as a cycling or pedestrian commuter trail. When you come here for recreation with your furry friend, make sure you respect your fellow trail users by observing the rules of the road.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
Walkers, joggers, and bikers use this well-traveled trail, so be considerate. You must keep your leashed pooch to the right of the path's midline so that others can pass. If you're traveling with Fido, do not enter Alum Park to protect your pup and the resident wildlife.
