The Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail has points in Jacksonville, Baldwin, and three other spots for easy access to the wilderness from the bustling towns. The trail is one of the most popular in the area because of its paved surface that's wheelchair accessible and smooth enough for skating, biking, and other outdoor activities. Despite its proximity to the city of Jacksonville, this path is perfectly rural, offering an excellent, serene getaway. Surrounded by shady trees and a quiet environment, the Jacksonville-Baldwin Trail offers hikers, bikers, and equestrian riders a cool, relaxing place to enjoy with plenty to see along the way.
A pupular sight along the trail is the Camp Milton Historic Preserve, which was once a Confederate base camp used in the Civil War. The area has recreations of the camp, its living quarters, and a bridge that you can explore. Other parts of the trail run through farmland, wetlands, a tree canopy, and creeks, so virtually anyone using the path can find sights they enjoy. One of the best things about this trail is its wide variety of scenery that's constantly changing, keeping your trip exciting and fresh.
Since the trail's meant for everyone to enjoy, you can find several benches and restrooms along the way. Leashed pups are welcome to join their owners, but be mindful of others using the path. A short leash is best to keep Spot close and allow bikers or joggers to pass. There are also some road crossings through areas of traffic, so be sure to have good control of your dog as you make your way across the roads. You'll also need to bring waste bags for easy clean-up, as these aren't available on the trail.
The Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail is a pawfect place to get out of the hot sun and busy city to enjoy the rural side of Jacksonville's metro area.
