Description

Don't let the beginning of this course fool you. The trail system at Kelly's Run - Pinnacle Overlook offers a challenging hike with beautiful vistas. You'll pass through a cornfield and have a short trek on a maintenance road. The rest of the route involves an upward climb to the overlook, a walk in the forest, and a descent to the stream. This area bursts with colorful wildflowers and flowering trees in the spring. In fall, you can enjoy the changing leaves.

If you head west from the parking lot, you'll pass a ballfield and go through a cornfield to start your trek. Follow the posts with blue blazes to the maintenance road and down to Kelly's Run. Shortly after you cross the stream, you can pick up the orange blazed Conestoga Trail. This pathway climbs steeply to Pinnacle Overlook. Take a break here and catch the pawesome views of the Susquehanna River and surrounding countryside. After the viewpoint, you'll follow a forest road that has yellow and white blaze markings denoting two area trails. Stick with the white blazes when the paths diverge to head to Kelly's Run. At Kelly's Run, switch to following the orange and blue blazes to take a hike upstream. The route goes past some rock outcrops and a gravel bar. You'll cross the stream a few times and climb a rocky trail before heading through some evergreens and back to your car.

The preserve allows your furry pal to join you if they stay on a leash. Make sure you leave no trace of your visit by collecting and carrying out any waste. Bring water with you for your hike.

Hiking in the Kelly's Run and Pinnacle Scenic Overlook Nature Preserves offers a rigorous workout with pawtastic rewards. You'll be able to see a range of vegetation and wildlife here, and the views are truly memorable.
