If your doggo needs a break from the fast paced Las Vegas life, grab the leash and head over to this furrific trail. It’s located inside Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and is about 30 minutes west of the Strip. Here your pup can revel in the peace and quiet of the desert.
There are two ways to get to the actual La Madre Spring Trailhead.
You can either park at the Willow Springs picnic area then walk up the old
Rocky Gap road, or if you have an SUV, you can drive the mile and a half. It is rocky, so use caution. From the trailhead, the trail slopes up and leads
to the backside of White Rock Mountain. Eventually you see a junction. Before
you continue left for La Madre Spring Trail, stop and admire the glorious White
Rock Mountain. This is a great spot to paws for a water break.
Keep trekking up the trail toward the spring. It won’t be
long until you reach a dam with a small pond above it. This is the end of the
official trail, but if your pooch wants some adventure, go ahead and explore the
area. There are a couple small waterfalls and an old miner’s shelter to find.
The vegetation is thick and there are an assortment of insects, but it’s
nothing your doggo can’t handle. When you’re pup is ready, turn around and head
back down the trail.
To hike this trail, you'll need a day pass for Red Rock Canyon at $15.00 per vehicle, or $30.00 per
person for an annual pass. Then you and your pooch can come
back and explore the other pawsome trails this park has to offer. As always,
make sure you have plenty of water for both you and your dog. This trail will definitely
make your pup’s tail wag!
