Description

In the heart of Allentown, you'll find a pawesome greenway with a six-mile loop trail. Hike on the Lehigh Parkway Heritage Trail when you want to get some exercise in a natural setting. The cinder footpath follows both sides of Little Lehigh Creek. There are connector bridges across the water at several junctions. That way, you can tailor the length of your walk to suit your needs. Along the way, you'll find several points of interest.

There's a parking lot next to the trail at the junction of Park Drive and Academy Road. Follow the pathway east and north along the creek. You'll pass through a grassy area then enter a stand of trees on your way to the disc golf course. The route joins with Park Drive for a stretch, then breaks off again when the road veers away from the water. Continue on your way until you reach Lehigh Parkway North. Cross the bridge and start your southward journey on the loop. Before you go under Oxford Drive, you'll pass Bogart's Bridge, one of the oldest of its kind in the county. At the southwestern end of the loop, there's a fish hatchery and arboretum. On the way back to the car, you'll also pass by the Museum of Indian Culture, the Little Lehigh Fly Shop, and the Mack Trucks Historical Museum.

This trail is a furrific place to walk your leashed pooch. The pathway gets a moderate amount of traffic from bikers, joggers, and horseback riders. There are waste receptacles along the route where you can dispose of your pup's droppings.

The Lehigh Parkway Heritage Trail offers an interurban getaway for you and Fido. Walk through a combination of woods and fields along the banks of Little Lehigh Creek. Watch the birds in the trees and look for other wildlife on your way. The best times to visit this route are between April and September.
