Need a new spot to walk your favorite four legged friend? Look no further! Grab the leash and make your way over to the Lionel Hampton Trail. Mostly running through the beautiful 100 acre Hampton/ Beecher Nature Preserve, this trail is a puptacular place to spend some time with your pooch!
The trail is just five miles from downtown Atlanta, so
you and your pup can pop over for a walk on short notice. Street parking is
available and a train station is just over half a mile away.Ā
On the northern end, the trail begins where Willis Mill Road meets Martin Luther King Junior Drive. It runs through Hampton/ Beecher Nature PreserveĀ and ends at Jenny Wren Lane and Willis Mill Road. All in all, the trail is 1.2 miles trail, and paved with asphalt. It's frequented by cyclists, skaters, joggers, and of
course, dog walkers. Since the trail is just over a mile, your doggo might need a
bit more exercise. Take some time to explore the other trails in the
preserve. The Lionel Hampton Trail hooks up
to the Southwest Beltline Connector Trail. There are also several dirt spur
trails that meander through Hampton/ Beecher Nature Preserve. Look for the trenches and fortifications
that were once used by the Union Troops during the battles of Ezra Church and
Utoy Creek.
Before leaving home, be sure to pack plenty of drinking
water. As you know, Atlanta temperatures can soar during the summer. Your furry
pal will definitely need a cold drink during their walk. Also, be a responsible
pet parent and bring some clean up bags so you can pick up any doggy debris
that your pup leaves behind.
A walk along the Lionel Hampton Trail will make your
pooch one happy hound!
