Little Rock Creek Trail is a scenic 1.6-mile trail that’s perfect for hiking with your pup! Dogs are welcome to join you on this furrific paved trail on-leash.
Little Rock Creek Trail has two trailheads: one at Walnut Creek Wetland Park and one at Chavis Park in Downtown Raleigh. Parking is available near both ends of the trail. If you begin your hike at Walnut Creek Wetland Park, one of the first sights you’ll pass is the park’s nature center. This nature center is home to many different interactive displays that discuss the park’s native plants and animals. Restrooms, water fountains, and a pet watering bowl are available at the nature center—it’s a good idea to grab water for you and your pup here before you continue your walk.
As you continue down the trail, you’ll walk along scenic Little Rock Creek. For the rest of your walk, you’ll go through a series of woodland areas and peaceful neighborhoods on the outskirts of Downtown Raleigh. As you’re walking, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the native wildlife that lives in and along the creek. This includes beavers, groundhogs, deer, red-shoulder hawks, a variety of waterfowl, and much more!
Little Rock Creek Trail ends at Chavis Park. This park has been around since 1937, and it’s home to a historic carousel, a few different athletic fields, playgrounds, a tennis court, and a walking track. If you and your pup are hungry after your walk, the park also has numerous picnic pavilions where you can have a snack with your dog.
Little Rock Creek Trail is a fun, mostly flat trail that’s great for leisurely strolls with your furry best friend. Be sure to bring some doggy bags with you on your walk, and have a great time walking on this pawesome creekside trail!Â
There’s limited shade on some portions of the Little Rock Creek Trail. Be sure to give your dog plenty of water while you’re walking on these parts of the trail. Also, be sure to look out for poison ivy while you’re walking through woodland areas.
