The trail is paved and mostly flat, and it parallels Oil Creek, providing great views during your walk.

The Oil Creek State Park Trail has two trailheads: the Drake Well Museum, which is at the northern end of the trail, and the Petroleum Centre, which is at the southern end of the trail. If you choose to start at the northern end of the trail, the first thing you’ll see is the historic Hunt Farm, which has been operating since 1879. After that, you’ll pass beautiful Boughton Falls — the pawfect place to stop and take a photo!

As you continue down the trail, you’ll go through picturesque wooded areas. You’ll also pass numerous restrooms, rain shelters, and picnic shelters where you can take a break and have a snack or lunch with your pup. Plus, you’ll see a variety of historic sites, including Funkville, Shaffer Farm, and Miller Farm. There are interpretive signs along the trail that provide more information about these unique historical sites.

About three-quarters of the way down the trail, you’ll see lovely Plum Dungeon Falls. Then, you’ll pass Benninghoff Farm and McCrea Farm. Finally, soon after that, you’ll reach the southern end of the trail at the Petroleum Centre, which is home to a wooden train depot from the 19th-century. Picnic pavilions, drinking water, and restrooms are also available here.
