Old Hickory Dam Greenway

For a pawtastic day reconnecting with nature, why not bring Fido and the whole fam to check out the Old Hickory Dam Greenway? One of Tennessee's most pawpular spots, this loop trail spans 1.4 miles in length and is partially paved. You and your doggo are sure to get in a good workout on the 30 minutes it takes to travel along this asphalt-lined trail that meanders through areas of forest and along a lake. An easy hike, you and your pooch will come away refreshed from your day of barking great trail fun at Old Hickory Dam Greenway! 

Old Hickory Dam Greenway is considered a short, multi-use trail. It is located within the Tailwater Access Area in northern Nashville. The trail can easily be accessed from Cinder Road or the Old Hickory Lake Park which is situated directly next door. You and your pupperoni can head straight for the wooded trail portions from the northern section of the parking lot. 

Old Hickory Dam Greenway is the pawrfect loop trail for biking or walking, and it is even wheelchair accessible. Your pooch is warmly welcomed to join you on this wooftastic trail. It is unknown if dogs must be leashed on Old Hickory Dam Greenway, but it is always a good idea to bring a lead along just in case. You will also need to pack cleanup bags as none are provided on the property.

Along your travels through this wooded trail, you will discover the point where the Cumberland River meets up with the body of water known as Old Hickory Lake. There is also an observation area above the water that allows you to take in the pawsome views, and a lovely wooden boardwalk from which you just might spy a group of turkeys waddling about on an adventure all their own.

Both the Cumberland River and the Old Hickory Lake are chock full of fish, so you just might want to bring your fishing gear along to try your hand at catching some lunch! In quaint little alcoves, you will also find some benches surrounded by lush, mature trees. Here, you and your best canine pal can cop a squat and enjoy the beauty all around you. You'll want to bring along a supply of water for you and your dog to enjoy on this trail, and clean up bags.

Old Hickory Dam Greenway is an easy and enjoyable walk for people and pooches of all ages to enjoy, and will have your pup's tail wagging!
