Description

Whether you and your dog are just starting out in your outdoor adventures, or you’re experienced pros in the mood for a short and sweet jaunt, the Old Hickory trail is for you! The gorgeous scenery and diverse ecosystems make this 1.1-mile trail understandably popular with furry and human hikers of all skill levels.

When you and Fido are at the trailhead, be sure to check out the map that illustrates the main portion of the trail and the three small loops that stem from it. The main stretch of the Old Hickory Trail is a .3-mile shady, paved path that’s a great place for a walk, especially if you have a stroller or small kiddos in tow. Croaking frogs and flittering butterflies will provide quite the greeting as you wander through the woods. There are also several benches where you and your pup can stop and enjoy the scenery.

Once you and your pooch reach the end of the main trail, make a right onto the unpaved .2-mile Wildlife Loop where there’s a serene pond and abundant wildlife. White-tailed deer, wood ducks and even bald eagles have been spotted at this little oasis.

The next mini-loop is the .2-mile Willow Swamp Loop. This stretch of trail is fun because it has a long boardwalk that extends over the wetlands.

As you near the trailhead, make one last pass through the unpaved .4-mile Woodland Loop. You and Fido will love the secluded feel of the dense forest and the patches of sunlight dancing on the trail.

There is no clean drinking water available so be sure to pack a bottle for you and your furry pal.

As you make your way down the Old Hickory trail and breathe in the fresh scents of the forest, you and Fido will see why this peaceful woodland trail is so popular!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
Mosquitoes love this trail as much as pups and their people do, so be sure to pack the bug spray. Parts of the trail can get a bit muddy with even just a little rainy weather. Poison ivy won't be much of a concern as long as you and your pooch stay on the path, but be sure to check yourself and Fido for ticks when you get home.
