Hiking is a fun and an exciting adventure for you and your pup anywhere, but especially in sunny California. The city of Redding offers a great place to take a hike in the pup-friendly Piety Hill Loop, part of the BLM land area.
You can pick up the trailhead on Clear Creek Road where you will find parking. Heading out from here, Piety Hill Loop offers a 4.1-mile loop trail that is exceptional for all pup-abilities.Â
A very short section at the beginning of your hike and the end of your hike is rated as moderate as there is a small incline, but the rest of the trail is considered easy and you can rest assured that your pup will have a great time. The trail meanders through grassland areas brimming with wildflowers in the spring. Oaks provide some much-needed shade in the summer months and make for a beautiful setting.Â
As you continue your hike, you will be rewarded with views of Mount Lassen peak and the Sacramento Valley. The overlook of Clear Creek Canyon is spectacular and is a must-rest stop on your journey. Be sure to snap some selfies of you and Fido for your scrapbook! The footing is packed soil which is easy on the paws and feet.Â
This is a shared use trail with bicyclists, so be careful to keep your fur-ever friend on leash. The trail offers open views, so it will be easy to see them approaching. Restrooms are available for use at the parking area, but there are no drinking fountains here. Be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks for this hike together. Cleaning up after Fido will keep this trail pup-friendly.
