What could be sweeter than a day in the great outdoors with your fur-ever friend by your side? Check out the Pineridge Natural Area in the city of Fort Collins, Colorado, for a hiking extravaganza! You and your pup will enjoy several trails located all in the same spot!
Pick up the trailheads for these interconnecting trails in two different areas. You can either park at the South County Road 42C lot and pick up the Reservoir Loop Trail and Foothills Trail, or head south a bit to the other parking lot trailhead for the entrance to Ridge Trail. Either way, there are a total of 7 trails within the Pineridge Natural Area that will offer you all the hiking you can imagine!
The Reservoir Loop Trail is a natural-surface path which runs along the east side of Dixon Reservoir. This loop will take you 1.8 miles in total, but will meet up with the Valley Trail and Foothills Trail at about the halfway point. You will be treated to spectacular views of the reservoir, Spring Canyon Community Park and the city landscape of Fort Collins.
Or try the Foothills Trail which has a portion of its 8.2-mile length that runs through the area. This section is about 2 miles long and will take you and Fido along the western side of Dixon Reservoir. The trail connects to Valley Trail and Timber Trail, both of which are approximately 1 mile long. In total, all the trails meander for 7 miles throughout the Pineridge Natural Area.Â
Be sure to pack plenty of water when you and your pup hike here. Restrooms are located at the trailhead parking areas, and be sure to bring mutt mitts as well. Keep your puptastic friend on leash during your visit since you will be sharing this trail with bicyclists.Â
