Description

Are you and your pup looking for a scenic walk where you can spend quality time together? The Pope-Baldwin Bike Pat, in beautiful South Lake Tahoe is a perfect place. Located in east-central California, near the Nevada border, this hiking trail will keep you both fit and entertained!

Begin your journey at the Taylor Creek Visitors Center, where you will find free parking. The path can be accessed here, and you can start your fur-ific hike. This 3.6-mile path is paved and level, which makes it perfect for all pup-abilities. Many people visit here during the summer months as this is a resort town, so you will be joined by bicyclists, and in-line skaters. This multi-use path is also accessible for those using a wheelchair, so service dogs will be present as well.

As you walk, you will pass three popular beaches – Pope Beach, Baldwin Beach and Kiva Beach. Although pups are not allowed directly on the beach, the scenic views are spectacular of Lake Tahoe, and there are many spots to take a pup-pic! You will also meander through famous Camp Richardson Resort and other historic attractions. Toward the end of the path, you may continue ½ mile more to the Fallen Leaf Campground and continue your hike which offers amazing views of Fallen Leaf Lake.

It is required by this U.S. Forest Trail to keep your pup on a 6-foot leash for everyone’s safety. You should also pack plenty of water, especially during the summer months as the weather warms. Because the path is made of asphalt, it can get quite hot during the mid-day hours. Please plan accordingly to give your pawtastic pup a place off the path to cool his paws and rest.

Pope Baldwin Bike Path is your ticket to fun in South Lake Tahoe!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
There are locations along the path that will require you to cross lanes of traffic at a light. The path can get very congested in the summer, so your pup must remain close by your side during most of the hike.
