Ready to get outdoors with your fur-ever friend? Then this is the time to visit Elk City, Kansas, and hop on the Post Oak Nature Trail located here.Â
Your pup can be a puppy, an adult or an old-timer, and they will enjoy this hike. It is rated as an easy trail for everyone and is only 2/3rds of a mile in length. The trail meanders through landscaped grounds and is paved, so it is easy on the paws and feet! It is rated as a National Recreational Trail, so you know it will be spectacular.
You will pick up the trailhead at the Elk City Reservoir dam and scenic overlook to begin your hike. Soon you will leave the open space area and head into the forest. This makes for beautiful scenery and the shade is a bonus on a hot, summer day. It is a picturesque short hike that allows for some time to reflect and enjoy just being with your fur-ever friend.Â
The trail is well-marked and easily followed even for those not-so-outdoorsy pups! They will love being in the fresh air and can take their time winding through the area. The trees which line your walk are a very impressive group of old timber, some ranging in age to over 200 years old.
It is required that your pup remain on leash here. There are no restrooms or water fountains available on the trail, so plan accordingly. It would be a good idea to pack mutt mitts to keep this trail pup-friendly. Camping is an option as well in the area and is frequented by fur-friendly people wanting to extend their time in the great outdoors!
Be sure to check out the Post Oak Nature Trail in the heart of Kansas for your next pup-tastic adventure!
