Is your pooch craving some time in the great outdoors? Then pack up your pooch and head over to the Silver Run Ski Trail. Find the trailhead where Silver Run Ski Trail Road meets Silver Run Road. Don’t be fooled by the name, it doesn’t have to be winter and you don’t have to be on skis to enjoy this pawsome trail. Located just outside of Red Lodge, it is furrific place to exercise your doggo, even in the summer months.
As the name suggests, when the snow falls, this trail is a favorite destination for the local cross country skiers. The trail’s unique design lends itself to the winter sport, but it is also great for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. There are three possible loops, all varying in length. Loop 1 is 2.4 miles, Loop 2 runs 4.5 miles, and Loop 3 clocks in at 5 miles. With so many options, you can really create a hike that’s perfect for your pup’s energy level.
The north side of the trail runs parallel to West Fork Rock Creek. Not only does this clear water creek add beauty to the forested trail, it gives your furry friend extra terrain to explore. They’ll love hopping along the strewn boulders, wading, or fishing sticks out of the river. There are plenty of large rocks that you can sit on and watch your pup play.
Primitive restrooms are located at the trailhead. Your dog
must be leashed when within 300 feet of the trailhead, but past that, they are
free to wander sans leash. Make sure you have plenty of water for both you and
your pup. And it wouldn’t hurt to bring some snacks, especially a biscuit or
two for your doggo. Do your part to give pets and their people a good
reputation; clean up after your pup and pack out whatever you pack in. Make no
mistake, your pup will have a woofin’ good time on Silver Run Ski Trail!
