Description

The Third Creek Greenway is a pupular, but peaceful, 5.3 mile stretch of trail that is part of the Knoxville 18 mile Greenway system. Many people walk, hike, and bike the path full of mature trees, wildlife, wetlands, and bamboo groves. The primarily asphalt path makes for an easy hike with very little incline and no loose terrain. You will also be able to see a real Cherokee Indian village site if you follow Third Creek to its mouth at the Tennessee River.

The Third Creek Bicycle Trail has four main entrances. The westernmost entrance is at the top of the Third Creek Greenway Park at 3110 Sutherland Ave, and is where the Beardon Village Greenway connects to the Third Creek Greenway. In this woofderful park, history buffs can check out the Civil War fort recently discovered here. The trail winds south along Third Creek and down through the park, and in the middle, you can find the connection to the second entrance which comes up from 3507 Kingston Pike. This is also where the Third Creek Greenway meets the Sequoyah Greenway, which leads to Sequoyah Park to the southwest. Third Creek Greenway continues out of the park, still following the creek.

Halfway along the Greenway, you and Fido will be able to enjoy Tyson Park and the facilities available there, including tennis courts, a skate park, restrooms, a playground and picnic areas. A third entrance is found inside Tyson Park at 2321 Kingston Pike.

Traveling south out of the park, the trail continues to follow the creek through urban Knoxville until it ends at the connection with the Neyland Greenway inside UT Gardens, right near where Third Creek crosses Neyland Drive SW. If you enjoy nature, the gardens here are a must-see. The wetlands and diverse wildlife combine to create a beautiful natural and man-guided floral landscape.

Pavilions and little shops for snacks and meals are spread out along the trail. This helps you and Fido stay hydrated and keep up your energy to hike the whole path and back! Be sure to keep Fido leashed along all areas of the Greenway, and bring clean-up bags and water to share!

With pawmazing sights along the way, the Third Creek Greenway is sure to bring you and your pup back again and again!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
If you and Fido are taking a night stroll, be careful because the lighting available is spotty. This is a very busy bike path, so watch for bikers. Rainy season can bring with it flooding on this flat greenway, so plan ahead for inclement weather and avoid the paths during times of heavy rain.
