If you’re looking for a woofderful spot to hike with your pup in wine country, the Timberhill Park Trail is the spot! With breathtaking views of the sprawling hills of Napa Valley, you and your dog may find yourselves wanting to walk this short and sweet trail twice!
You’ll find the trailhead for this 1.5-miler in the parking lot at the west end of Timberhill Lane just off Stonybrook Drive. From there, you and your pooch will begin your 723-foot climb uphill through the 10-acre Timberhill Park. Though there are a few steep areas, the ascent is fairly gradual along the dirt trail. This there-and-back trail is not widely used, making it a peaceful area for a hike with your furry pal.
The trail starts off in a wooded area but quickly gives way to bald grassy slopes that are dotted with blackberry bushes and stands of trees. In the springtime, the area has a spectacular display of wildflowers and lush green rolling hills. In the late summer and autumn, the slopes turn a golden color as the grass cures and Napa Valley’s fall foliage comes into season.
Once you and Fido meander your way to the summit, you will have stunning 360-degree views of nearby vineyards and the valley floor including the City of Napa. There are also some large, mature trees at the summit that are a nice place to take a break in the shade with your dog – just watch out for poison oak.
The trail requires your pup to be leashed and for good reason – cows are often strewn about the hillsides and sometimes on the trail. Be sure to clean up after your dog, and pack drinking water for the both of you.
With stunning Napa Valley views and its manageable uphill climbs, the Timberhill Park Trail is a great place for a quick hike with your dog!Â
