Are you a resident or visitor to the Nichols Canyon area in Los Angeles, California? If you have a fur-ever friend who loves to go for a walk, be sure to check out the furbulous trails at the Trebek Open Space.
The trailhead to begin your hike is located on Nichols Canyon Road. Here you will find two trails which loop together on this 2.5-mile total hike. Pick either the Bantam Trail or the Castair Trail, both of which are pup-tastic. Rated as a moderate hike, they offer terrain which is suitable to most pups.Â
Your trip will begin with a slow ascent along the trail which has a smooth, dirt footing. It winds its way along rocky outcroppings and wildflower fields. Both sides of the path are lined with grassy areas and various native plants and shrubs. From anywhere on your hike on either trail, you will have scenic views of the Los Angeles area.Â
Either trail is considered a gem for walkers, runners and hikers as these are well-known, but lightly-traveled trails. This open space offers 62 acres of nature, donated by the celebrity Alex Trebek, and is tucked into the Hollywood Hills, close and just west of the Runyon Canyon Park. It offers a sunny location to hike and not much shade, so plan accordingly. Earlier mornings offer much more enjoyable temperatures for pup to partake in this hike.
It is important to pack plenty of water and snacks to share. Your pup probably deserves a biscuit or two for completing this hike, or just because! Restrooms are not provided, and your pup is required to be on leash throughout.
Los Angels never looked so inviting than from a spot on the Trebeck Open Space Trails with your pawtastic pup by your side.
