If you want a break from wine tasting and are in need of some fresh air, a walk through the beautiful Westwood Hills Park is the perfect way for you and your pooch to enjoy Napa Valley. Nestled right in the heart of Napa City, this hike provides pawsome views and a great spot to get some exercise.
From the barking lot, follow the trail as it delves into the groves of eucalyptus, oak, and bigleaf maple. There’s a bit of an incline at the beginning of the trail, but it’s nothing your pup can’t handle. As you make your way up the hill, look for the fence that indicates the park’s boundaries. It runs parallel to the trail and leads to the overlook. Once at the top, your pooch can gaze out over the Napa Valley vineyards and feel the breeze on their face. Stop here for a water and snack break before heading down into a nice meadow. Return to the trailhead the same way, or venture down some of the spur trails. Let your pup be the guide and create their own route through the network of connector trails.
Benches are strategically placed along the trail, so be
sure to paws and soak up the California sun and puptacular scenery. While there
is plenty of shade on the trail, you’ll still want to bring a lot of water to
keep your four legged hiker from overheating. Remember to also pack some clean
up bags and pick up after your beloved pet. Picnic tables are available near the
trailhead, so if you didn’t eat your lunch at the overlook, sit down for a bite
to eat before jumping in the car. Make no mistake, this is one trail your furry
BFF will want to come back to again and again.Â
