The city of Germantown is a major suburban city outside the city of Memphis. Thanks to the metropolitan area of the land, it's not always easy to find a decent trail that lets you explore nature. The Wolf River Greenway Trail allows for this though, and even connects to other trails for further exploration of the natural wonder that still exists inside the town.
The trail stays between 10 and 11 feet in width the entire way, with an asphalt face and very little elevation gain. These circumstances make the trail an easy hike to use for all feet and paws, with additional scenic views to enjoy as well. The trail begins in the Wolf River Nature Area, a small section of nature preserve on the southern side of Shelby Farms Park. The park itself boasts over 260 acres of land with fields, prairies, forests, ponds, and river access.
The Wolf River Greenway Parking Lot is where you'll start your journey, where it rests right on the southern shore of a large pond. The trail loops around that pond, with sights of thick woods, grasslands, and of Wolf River. It passes over a small suspension bridge over a marsh creek that connects the pond and the river. After passing over, you'll continue on around the eastern end of the loop and can continue on an out-and-back stretch of the trail that follows along the main road or head back to the parking lot to your car.
The trail offers activities like bicycling, canoeing and kayaking from a boat launch off the trail, walking, roller skating, and skateboarding. Some of the wildlife you can see on the trail are birds, squirrels, deer, groundhogs, beavers, and chipmunks.
You and Fido will take a breath of fresh air on the Wolf River Greenway Trail, and enjoy a lovely one on one time together that provides plenty of natural areas to explore and see together.
