Description

There’s just no bones about it, if you and your precious pooch are looking for the pawfect place to stretch those legs on an adventurous afternoon, you can’t miss the Youghiogheny River Trail! This tremendous trek is part of the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile trail that has frequently been dubbed "America’s Friendliest Long-Distance Rail Trail". The main passage stretches from Washington D.C. to Pittsburgh, PA, but the Youghiogheny River Trail is a 28-mile track that runs alongside a section of the river as it flows between Confluence and Mckeesport. There are multiple access points for the trail, but Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver Township is a favorite among four-legged frolickers as it has ample restrooms, access to clean drinking water, and plenty of parking space on-site.

The Youghiogheny Trail brings you through wooded wonderlands, charming towns, and historical hubs, and its beauty will take your breath away no matter the season. In spring, the path is hugged by striking wildflowers, and in autumn, the stunning fall foliage lines the route. The surrounding mountains and river are always picture-perfect, too! The trail is home to an abundance of small woodland animals, so be sure to keep your darling dog on a leash. There are many places to make pit-stops along the way, and you’ll never be too far from a snack spot or a restroom. Many trash cans can be found dotted around the areas you pass through, so pack poop bags to help keep the trail clean. Although this trail features plenty of shade and has no steep inclines, don’t forget to pack water so your happy hound stays hydrated!

Whether you’ve got a fit friend or a couch puptato on the end of that leash, this steady point-to-point trail means you can leave the park and head out for a mighty meander or just a quick promenade along your own path, turning back whenever you please. The Youghiogheny River Trail "offurs" barking besties the best of both worlds!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
