Ferndale is a cute little town located approximately 20 miles north of Detroit. It’s made up of several small neighborhoods, one of which is Fordmount Park. Fordmount Park is around 11 blocks wide and runs from Hilton to Pilgrim and from Woodward Heights Blvd. to Academy St. This area is highly residential and lined mostly with quaint little houses, well-kept lawns, and the occasional corner store or strip center. Within this neighborhood is an elementary school and a large park known as Martin Road. You’ll find about a fifty/fifty split between families with children and married couples young and old here.
The climate gets pretty cold in the winter months, even through the month of March, so make sure you are prepared for cold winds and snow. The rest of the year up until about November, it stays nice. Always check your forecast for rain as each month usually gets about a week’s worth.
If you have the desire to get out of the neighborhood, a commercial zone starts on just the other side of Hilton but there aren't many public areas with accommodations for dogs. You'll mostly find convenience stores, gas stations, and the like. Enjoy the classy, colorful, and quaint American architecture along your way. Remember to bring doggy bags so you can clean up any front lawns your doggy makes a mess of!
