Unionport is a residential community located in the Bronx, which is the northernmost borough of New York City. This area has recently been the recipient of many redevelopment and revitalization projects to improve infrastructure and services to residents in the area, and the community has benefited from these initiatives. The area is the third most densely populated county in the US, and Unionport is a very busy area, with major arteries including freeways 95, 278 and 678 running through and adjacent to it. This residential area also includes some commercial businesses and shops, and many services are available in adjacent communities.

The weather in this area varies according to the season. Winters can be cooler, and although the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the coast moderates winter temperatures somewhat, snow and freezing temperatures can occur and winter storms and major weather disturbances are possible during the hurricane season. Summer tends to be hot and humid. There are lots of overcast days, and air quality can be affected by pollution in this densely populated area. Before venturing out with your dog, check weather forecasts and pollution indexes. If you have respiratory problems smog can be a factor in your choice of outdoor activity.
